Responsibilities
Provide technical oversight and quality assurance on mechanical designs for commercial projects, including:
HVAC systems
Plumbing
Fire protection coordination
Energy and sustainable design strategies
Serve as Engineer of Record on select projects
Establish and maintain design standards, tools, and best practices
Lead and manage a team of mechanical engineers and designers
Mentor staff through technical guidance, performance feedback, and career development
Support hiring efforts and help build a scalable, high-performing department
Foster a collaborative and accountable team culture
Act as a key technical and strategic contact for clients
Participate in project pursuits, proposals, and interviews
Support long-term client relationships and identify opportunities for repeat work
Collaborate with other discipline leads to deliver integrated building solutions
Assist in departmental planning, workload forecasting, and resource management
Contribute to annual budgeting and revenue planning for the mechanical group
Partner with firm leadership to support regional growth initiatives
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
Professional Engineer (PE) license in North Carolina or ability to obtain through reciprocity
8+ years of experience in mechanical engineering consulting, with a focus on commercial buildings
Demonstrated experience leading teams or departments
Strong working knowledge of applicable codes
Proficiency with Revit and AutoCAD
