Mosquito Control Technician Trainee
NEOGOV is seeking a Mosquito Control Technician Trainee who will perform entry-level skilled work in the application of materials to control mosquitoes. The role involves conducting checks for breeding areas, applying control techniques, and maintaining records while ensuring compliance with environmental regulations.

Responsibilities
Conducts systematic daily checks of assigned areas in the County to locate noxious arthropod breeding areas
Learns to identify various mosquito species in both the adult and larval stages
Identify breeding problems and exercise good judgment in selecting appropriate control technique and/or treatment
Applies control materials according to procedure in order to maximize the coverage of the area while ensuring compliance with all applicable Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), State and County regulations and policies governing the application of pesticides
Maintains accurate daily records using FieldSeeker larviciding/surveillance module and paper records
Reports frequently via 2-way radio
Work independently with minor supervision
Maintains effective working relationships with other employees and the general public
Keeps abreast of advancements in the mosquito control field through self-study and professional training courses
Reads and interprets a variety of instructions, maps, diagrams, or schedules to determine appropriate treatment locations
Conducts late day and nighttime mosquito control activities as requested by the Field Supervisor and or Manager
Sets and collects light traps for mosquito control surveillance
Operates spray truck as needed, with heightened awareness to pedestrian and traffic conditions, and in accordance with traffic laws, ordinances, and safe driving practices, for the safe distribution of mosquito control chemicals and insecticides in designated County areas
Performs other related duties as required
Qualification
Required
High school diploma or G.E.D
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License
Must be able to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and a flexible schedule
Ability to read and comprehend technical and scientific reports and manuals; instructions, procedures, memos, letters
Ability to perform shop math
Ability to speak clearly and concisely to public and laymen; conversant in theory and practices of discipline
Must obtain a valid Public Health Pest Control certification issued by the State of Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services within twelve months of appointment and maintain the certificate throughout employment

Health Insurance: Health Insurance is effective the first of the month after completing 30 calendar days of employment. Seminole County offers a Point of Service (POS) plan. Dependent coverage is also available, the cost is split between the employee and employer. This benefit is not extended to part-time employees.
Life Insurance: Life and Accidental Death & Dismemberment Insurance for employees, equal to one times annual salary. Not extended to part-time employees.
Long-Term Disability: Provides 60% of salary after 6 months of disability. Not extended to part-time employees.
Deferred Compensation Plan (457): Employees may choose to have pre-tax payroll deductions made for deposit into this savings plan up to an IRS-established maximum.
Dental Insurance: A choice of 3 plans is available for employees and dependents at employee expense.
Additional Life Insurance: At employee expense, additional life insurance up to five times annual salary; dependent coverage also available.
Short-Term Disability Insurance: 60% of salary for the first six months of disability at employee expense.
Cancer and Specified Disease: Pays a benefit directly to the employee if being treated for this disease.
Flexible Spending Account: A pre-tax account for childcare and un-reimbursed medical expenses.
Pre-Tax Payroll Deductions: Under Section 125 of the IRS Code, certain payroll deductions for insurance coverage may be taken out prior to income being taxed.
