Responsibilities

Together with the other members of the GMA USA's senior leadership team, assists the President to develop short term business plans and longer-term strategic plans for GMA USA operations and then to co-ordinate and monitor the execution of these plans within the VP Operations' areas of responsibility
Responsible and accountable to the delivery by site of tons produced vs. budget, cost / ton vs. budget, overall cost vs. budget, and safety vs. budget – each month, quarter, and year
Reviews and reports on the implementation of business and strategic plans within the VP Operations' areas of responsibility from time to time and as requested by the President
Supports and promotes the implementation of GMA's vision, values and ensures all employees within the division operate in alignment with the company's core values
Acts as role model, mentor and coach to the GMA USA operations leaders - including proactively developing the operational managers to ready them and their organizations for significant growth of the business unit
Represents and promotes GMA USA with suppliers, government agencies and other important stakeholders
Maintains a positive, proactive working relationship with the President, Supply Chain, Finance, R &D, HR & Sales
Manages GMA USA's operations to ensure the safety, health and wellbeing of site-based personnel and the ongoing preservation of GMA's license to operate through sound adherence to regulatory requirements - including the protection of the environment we operate within
Manage the optimal performance of processing plants including optimizing cost performance, supply chain management, product quality and inventory management
Establishes and ensures compliance with financial goals, budgets and operating plans for the processing plants
Develops models and KPl’s in co-ordination with the President to enable the effective monitoring of plant performance, key operational risks and opportunities for cost reductions and efficiency improvements in GMA USA's operations
Proactively pursues improvements in the operating performance of each processing plant to investigate and implement value generating initiatives for the business - including the migration to bulk concentrate transfers from the mine to the plants for refining
Prepares activity and financial reports, as required, for the President to enable effective monitoring of the performance of the division
Establishes and supports the development of standard operating procedures across GMA USA's operations
Ensure that the sites operations are aligned with ISO management systems for quality, safety, environmental, and management of operations
Is visible and accessible at the operating facilities - demonstrating effective leadership through interaction and action with all personnel at the facilities
Direct the safe port operations of the Coos Bay Pier for cargo offloading and lay berth services, complying with all safety, local, state, and federal laws and regulations
Cultivates a strong and transparent working relationship with the President and ensures open and frequent communication about the performance of the GMA USA operations
Negotiate lease and material handling agreements for GMA USA ensuring the company’s best interest is reflected in the agreements
Establish operation teams KPI’s and evaluate performance making recommendations for GIS and MIS enumeration
Builds strong cross functional relationships and networks with other members of the GMA USA team (including Sales and Supply chain, People and finance) and actively supports cross functional initiatives to drive improved overall performance of GMA USA
Leads the development of a safety culture within GMA USA which is consistent with the safety objectives and strategies set out in the GMA Global Safety Policy
Demonstrates a commitment to the safety of GMA USA employees by promoting safety as a core GMA value, regularly discussing safety issues and initiatives with employees, undertaking safety inspections & discussions at worksites, and ensuring appropriate safety resources are in place to meet the requirements of the GMA Global Safety Policy at all plant facilities
Monitors the safety performance of GMA USA and takes action (proactively) to ensure performance is maintained at a very high standard
Facilitates and encourages continuous safety improvement
Complies with all federal, state and local government laws - and is prepared to accept and progress the higher standard where there is doubt in relation to applicable law, regulation or legislation
Complies with all GMA USA, and where relevant, GMA Group policies, procedures and guidelines and ensures that these are developed and maintained to a very high standard

Required

A demonstrated safety leader
A strong industrial processing background overseeing multiple plants, preferably in complex manufacturing environments
Excellent organizational and leadership skills
Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills
Able to negotiate effectively to achieve consensus amongst differing views
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Strength in developing high reliability maintenance systems and processes
Demonstrable experience in developing operational and business plans and executing them with a high level of success
Demonstrable experience in leading an operations' strategic planning process, from development through to implementation, ensuring all business plans, operating capital budgets support the organization's targets
Strong commitment to the development of staff, ability to lead cross-functional, multidisciplinary teams and a track record or selecting and retaining high performing employees
Demonstrable experience in implementing business improvement programs - with preference for use of technology and automation in production
A working understanding of the financial drivers and measures of business performance
Sound commercial judgment
Ability to lead successful change management initiatives
Familiarity with the industrial abrasives market
A leader capable of communicating a vision and building strong alignment for action

Preferred

A bachelor's degree in mineral processing, metallurgy or engineering is preferred with 15-20 years' related experience in leading an operations team in a mineral or industrial plant processing environment which has demonstrated industry leading performance and a high level of continuous improvement and business growth
A relevant post-graduate qualification such as an MBA
