Florida Legal Services, Inc. (FLS) is a statewide civil legal aid nonprofit dedicated to expanding access to justice for vulnerable Floridians. They are seeking an experienced and mission-driven Grant Writer to secure funding for clients facing various civil legal needs.

Responsibilities

Identify, research, and evaluate new funding opportunities from foundations, corporations, state agencies, and federal agencies
Proactively analyze eligibility requirements, funding trends, and diversification opportunities
Stay up to date on state and federal policies that may impact funding priorities
Conduct background research to strengthen proposals and inform project design
Draft, prepare, and submit high-quality grant applications, concept papers, letters of inquiry, and supporting documents
Develop proposals by assembling information regarding project objectives, outcomes, deliverables, implementation methods, timetables, staffing, budgets, performance standards, and evaluation strategies
Establish proposal timelines, priorities, and internal deadlines for information-gathering, writing, review, approval, and submission
Determine proposal concepts by studying RFPs, clarifying organizational opportunities/needs, and participating in strategy meetings
Maintain quality standards in all written materials, including readability, consistency, tone, and use of templates
Write, revise, and edit drafts including executive summaries, organization background sections, and conclusions
Develop and refine grant budgets in collaboration with program and finance staff
Ensure alignment between narrative components and budget documents
Work with program and administrative staff throughout the state to determine service needs, project ideas, gaps in services, and program expansion opportunities
Collaborate with program teams to articulate goals, outcomes, and evaluation metrics
Facilitate information gathering for proposals and reporting
Participate in development and program meetings as needed
Assist in preparation and submission of timely and accurate progress reports to funders
Gather and synthesize data, outcomes, and stories to support reporting requirements
Maintain positive, professional relationships with funders, grantors, monitors, and auditors
Correspond with private funders regarding proposal development and project updates
Assist in maintaining stewardship of existing funders through responsive and consistent communication
Explore opportunities for new or expanded support with current and potential funders
Meet with development staff of partner nonprofits to explore collaborative efforts
Prepare internal development reports for the Executive Director and Director of Grants Management
Assist in tracking grant requirements, deadlines, deliverables, reporting obligations, and compliance documentation
Maintain proposal and grant support databases
Support preparation for monitoring visits, audits, and programmatic/financial reviews
Assist in compiling required documents, data, and narratives for funder reviews
Stay abreast of FLS practice areas, teams, and special projects
Update job knowledge by participating in training, professional development opportunities, and maintaining personal networks

Required

Bachelor's degree required
Minimum 3–5 years of successful grant writing experience, preferably in a nonprofit or legal services environment
Demonstrated success obtaining private foundation, state, or federal awards
Experience developing and reviewing grant budgets
Experience working with grant management systems, online portals, and Microsoft Office/Google Workspace tools
Excellent writing, editing, analytical, and research skills, with the ability to tailor content to funder priorities
Strong organizational and project-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and competing priorities
Strong time-management skills and ability to work independently in a remote environment
Ability to work with a number of individuals with varied needs and deadlines
Outstanding attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
Strong presentation skills

Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to maintain positive relationships with colleagues, funders, monitors, and auditors
