Environmental Analyst, Associate

The Environmental Analyst, Associate will support the Science Policy team in managing climate mitigation program data, preparing reports, collaborating with stakeholders, and leading greenhouse gas reporting efforts.

Responsibilities
Manage climate mitigation program data, including information that supports the development of City Light’s GHG inventories
Prepare and submit reports as required by various entities (e.g., The Climate Registry, Environmental Protection Agency, Washington Department of Ecology, etc.)
Collaborate with and provide training and support to staff and other applicable stakeholders, as needed, to support the given reporting program needs. This would include site-visits
Manage research projects, contracts for various technical studies with academic institutions, government agencies, and consulting firms as needed. This work includes identifying contractors, developing the scopes of work, managing budgets, and ensuring timely completion of deliverables
Address internal and external questions about climate mitigation work, as needed
Identify and implement improvements to reporting systems and/or tools
Update applicable GHG Management and/or Monitoring Plans with updates and/or improvements to procedures, as needed
Stay current on science and policies relating to climate mitigation and provide review and input on policy-related matters
Represent City Light's work in various public forums. This work sometimes includes, but is not limited to, preparing and delivering presentations at scientific/industry conferences, workshops, and public meetings
Supervise and mentor college or high school interns, as needed

Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in natural or physical sciences, environmental sciences, planning (with emphasis on environmental issues), public administration/policy (with emphasis on natural resources), or related field
Minimum of three years of experience in environmental research, environmental law, impact analysis, environmental compliance, toxic substance management, or a related field. Other combinations of education, training and experience will be evaluated on an individual basis for comparability
Current State of Washington driver's license or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire
Preferred
Experience developing GHG inventories and executing management/monitoring plans and procedures
Experience gathering data, summarize, and analyze both quantitative and qualitative environmental data
Strong computer and analytical skills, including experience with Microsoft products and other software such as Python, SQL, R, ArcGIS and VBA
Ability to model exemplary customer service, remain courteous and professional at all times, and create and promote positive connections
Ability to work effectively with people of varying expertise and levels of experience in the utility industry
Strong organizational skills and attentiveness to detail
Strong oral and written communication skills
Strong problem-solving skills, willingness to learn, and commitment to continuous improvement
Demonstrated experience working successfully both independently and in teams
