Disinfection Technician/Sr. Disinfection Technician
NEOGOV is seeking a Disinfection Technician/Sr. Disinfection Technician to join the Otay Water District's Operations Department. The role involves maintaining and repairing water quality disinfection systems and equipment, while collaborating with a dedicated team to ensure the safety and quality of water resources.

Responsibilities
Repairs and maintains chlorine gas, ammonia and sodium hypochlorite systems in the District
Implements new designs and technology necessary to improve the District's disinfection system
Wires new and altered equipment, chlorination controls, analyzer controls and alarms
Programs microprocessors and operates the following electrical and electronic test equipment: ammeters, voltmeters, multi-meters, calibrators, and signal generators
Performs preventive maintenance and diagnoses equipment failures
Purchases equipment and parts necessary for proper maintenance and operation of disinfection systems
Maintains records of maintenance done on disinfection equipment
Works from blueprints, schematics and rough sketches. Makes rough sketches and working drawings
May serve as a member of the District's Hazwoper Team which includes entering and working in confined spaces, wearing SCBA respirator gear and respirator protection, wearing a Level A suit, and wearing a safety harness
Diagnoses and makes recommendations of equipment replacement
Develops and executes action plans for Nitrification events
Responds to and works weekends and evenings in scheduled and/or unscheduled situations
Operates District vehicles safely
Dechlorinates as necessary
Completes final walk through of new facilities
Plans and lays out assigned tasks according to priority
Reviews purchase requisitions, work orders, and work requests
Assists supervisor with preparing staff reports and other periodic reports
Assigns tasks in the field as needed to ensure work is completed safely
Sets project priorities and reviews completed work as needed to ensure work is completed in a timely manner and to standards
Assists in budget preparation
Assists during Cal-ARP and RMP audits and inspections
Qualification
Required
A valid California State Water Resources Control Board - Grade I Water Treatment Certificate for Disinfection Technician
A valid California State Water Resources Control Board - Grade II Water Treatment Certificate for Senior Disinfection Technician
A valid California Class C Driver's License and a safe driving record
A valid California State Water Resources Control Board - Grade II Water Distribution Certificate
One (1) year of experience performing preventative maintenance, installation and repair of chlorination/disinfection equipment and associated auxiliary electronic equipment and controls for Disinfection Technician
Two (2) years of experience performing preventative maintenance, installation and repair of chlorination/disinfection equipment and associated auxiliary electronic equipment and controls for Senior Disinfection Technician
High School Diploma or G.E.D
Benefits
Scheduled salary increases include the following: July 1, 2024: 6% Cost-of-Living Adjustment, July 14, 2025: 5% Cost-of-Living Adjustment, July 13, 2026: 5% Cost-of-Living Adjustment, Annual Merit Increases: Eligible employees are eligible for 3% merit increase on an annual basis until they reach the top of their salary range, based on meeting expectations on their performance review.
Vacation: 12 days/year, increasing to a max of 23 days/year.
Sick Leave: 8 days/year, increasing to max of 15 days/year.
Paid Holidays: 14 days/year, including employee's birthday and two floating holidays.
Alternative Work Schedule: A 9/80 work schedule may be available based on the needs of the department.
PERS Retirement: The District contracts with the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS).
Medical/Rx Insurance: Choice of Blue Shield PPO, EPO, HMO or Kaiser HMO plans, 100% premium paid by District for employee and 88% for dependent(s).
Dental Insurance: 100% premium paid by District for employee and 88% paid for dependent(s).

Education Reimbursement Program: Employees are eligible to receive reimbursement for District approved courses not to exceed $3,000 per fiscal year.
Certification Incentive Program: Eligible District employees that obtain target certifications that exceed the minimum job requirements may qualify for either a base pay percentage increase or receive a monetary incentive.
