The NYS Office for People With Developmental Disabilities is seeking a Training Specialist 1 to present training programs aimed at improving the knowledge and skills of employees. The role involves developing and delivering training programs, facilitating online learning, and assessing training needs within the agency.

Responsibilities

Presents specific training courses in the agency’s training program
Attain certification as a certified instructor in the agency’s 3 levels of crisis intervention and prevention courses (PROMOTE)
Attain certification as First Aid/CPR AED Instructor and become certified to do fit testing
Identifies and assesses specific training needs by reviewing agency programs and by discussing staff and program requirements with program managers
Presents training courses in New Employee Orientation (NEO) and annual required training by obtaining outside instructors or personally conducting course and selecting audiovisual teaching aides
Must be able to facilitate online learning courses, experience utilizing Webex, TEAMS, or other distance learning platforms
Evaluates training courses using questionnaires, review of work reports or supervisory evaluation
Disseminates training announcements and information concerning educational opportunities
Informs program managers and supervisors in developing on-the-job training programs
Reviews on-the-job training programs with supervisors for relevance
Support the Developmental Assistant 1 traineeship program and ongoing supervisory training

Required

A bachelor's degree or higher degree
A bachelor's degree and one year of professional experience developing and presenting training programs to improve the on-the-job knowledge, skills, and abilities of employees to enable them to carry out an agency's mission, including the care and treatment of vulnerable persons in the care and/or custody of the State
A bachelor's degree and two years of professional experience developing and presenting training programs to improve the on-the-job knowledge, skills, and abilities of employees to enable them to carry out an agency's mission, including the care and treatment of vulnerable persons in the care and/or custody of the State
Must have a valid driver's license to apply as travel is a part of the duties involved in this position
Attain certification as a certified instructor in the agency's 3 levels of crisis intervention and prevention courses (PROMOTE)
Attain certification as First Aid/CPR AED Instructor and become certified to do fit testing
Must be able to facilitate online learning courses, experience utilizing Webex, TEAMS, or other distance learning platforms
Possess the minimum qualifications for this title as established by the Department of Civil Service and listed on the most recent exam announcement
Meet the applicable minimal mental and/or physical requirements for the job (with a reasonable accommodation, if necessary)
Have a current Eligibility Letter from the NYS Department of Civil Service, www.cs.ny.gov/rp55/, and be able to provide it to the Human Resources Office upon request
