Professional Engineer 1 (Civil/Transportation) NY HELPS - Region 10
The NYS Department of Transportation is seeking a Professional Engineer 1 (Civil/Transportation) to oversee the Highway Work Permit process. The role involves supervising permit reviewers, coordinating with regional groups, and ensuring compliance with SEQR requirements for commercial permits impacting traffic.

Responsibilities
Supervises and train permit reviewers on the Highway Work Permit process
Receives requests for work permits from prospective permittees for Major and Minor Permits, and provides them with forms, information, standards, etc
Coordinates all Main Office and FHWA inputs, and act as the liaison to oversee the coordination for Major and Minor Commercial Permits that are expected to impact traffic
Assures that SEQR requirements, if any, have been complied. Coordinate with appropriate Regional Groups involved in SEQR reviews and will act as the liaison or oversee this coordination for Major and Minor Commercial Permits expected to impact traffic. Advises the permittee of relationship between SEQRA and the Highway Work Permit process and encourages contact and coordination with the permittee and the lead SEQRA agency
Updates permittee routinely on the status of the application. Informs permittee routinely on the status of the application. Informs the permittee promptly of unanticipated situations which could significantly delay the issuance of the permit
Incorporates appropriate Regional Group inputs into permit requirements
Issues approved Highway Work Permits
Responsibilities may include serving a role within the Incident Command System to support the department's response to regional and statewide emergency situations
Qualification
Required
A New York State Professional Engineer's license and current registration and a qualifying bachelor's degree or higher as listed below
A New York State Professional Engineer's license and current registration and one year of full-time qualifying engineering experience as listed below
One year of full-time engineering experience with transportation projects related to highways/roadways, railroads, bridges, airports, waterways, building structures, or traffic management and safety systems
New York State Professional Engineer's License and current registration AND be a qualified employee of New York State AND have had one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as follows: Assistant Engineer (Civil/Transportation)
Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis
Your required educational credentials must have been awarded by an educational institution accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the United States (U.S.) Department of Education/Secretary of Education
