They are seeking a Senior Manager of Data Science to establish and lead their data science function, responsible for building capabilities in retinal image processing and AI while shaping the company’s data strategy to advance therapies for retinal diseases.

Responsibilities

Define and implement the company’s data science vision for retinal image analysis and AI

Establish best practices for data workflows, experimental design, and statistical analysis

Develop and deploy machine learning models for retinal imaging datasets (OCT, fundus, angiography)

Perform image processing, statistical analysis, and experimental validation independently

Build scalable data pipelines and infrastructure to support research and clinical programs

Partner with internal cross-functional team and clinicians to integrate imaging insights into therapeutic development

Represent data science in interdisciplinary discussions, publications, and external collaborations

Stay ahead of emerging AI/ML methods and evaluate their potential for adoption

Translate imaging data into actionable insights that accelerate therapeutic discovery

Required

PhD in Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, Data Science, Neuroscience, or related field (preferred). Master's degree with extensive relevant experience will also be considered

Strong background in retinal image processing (e.g., Heidelberg, RetinAI) and ophthalmic imaging modalities

Hands-on experience with AI/ML frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn)

Proficiency in Python, R, or MATLAB for data science and statistical analysis

7+ years of postdoctoral or industry experience in data science, computational biology, or biomedical imaging

Demonstrated success in experimental design, hypothesis testing, and statistical analysis

Track record of publications, patents, or translational research contributions

Experience leading projects or initiatives

Ability to set strategy while executing independently in a start-up environment

Strong problem-solving abilities and scientific curiosity

Excellent communication skills
