Senior Payroll COE Analyst

International Paper is the global leader in sustainable packaging solutions, and they are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Senior Payroll COE Analyst. This role supports payroll functions including month-end processes, reconciliations, and compliance activities to ensure accurate payroll accounting and timely financial reporting.

Responsibilities

Accrue payroll and payroll-related benefits at month end
Calculate and post monthly vacation accruals, including recurring journal entries
Perform annual adjustments for holiday and sick pay
Complete annual benefit reclasses, including:
AIP Benefits Reclass
PSP Benefits Reclass
RSU Benefits Reclass
Paid Sick Reclass
Balance the Payroll Clearing Account, including expenses uploaded from TSA to E01 through Oracle
Reconcile payroll banking accounts, including:
ACH reversals
Stop pays
Reissues
Reconcile and resolve:
Garnishments
Employee relocation transactions (including reclasses to divisions)
Employee overpayments
Miscellaneous employee withholdings
Reconcile Unclaimed Property – Payroll, including coordination with The Hackett Group, requesting documentation, and cancelling checks with the bank
Submit FICA and maintenance emails
Process H&W (Health & Welfare) payments
Post FICA and payroll adjustments
Post maintenance adjustments
Conduct OT (overtime) reviews for accuracy and compliance
Manage and resolve FICO errors
Handle SM35 error processing and corrections

Qualification

Required

4+ years of payroll, accounting, or financial operations experience
Strong understanding of payroll accounting principles
Advanced Excel skills (VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, reconciliations)
Exceptional attention to detail and problem‑solving abilities
Strong communication skills and ability to work cross‑functionally

Preferred

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field
Experience with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, etc.)
