Surgical Technology Program Director

West Georgia Technical College is seeking a Surgical Technology Program Director responsible for the ongoing development, implementation, and instruction of the Surgical Technology degree program courses across multiple campuses. The role involves curriculum design, student advisement, budgeting, and management of adjunct faculty, along with ensuring compliance with accreditation standards.
Government Administration

Responsibilities

Duties include curriculum design and development; instruction, recruitment, and advisement of students; budgeting; and management of adjunct faculty
Responsible for the ongoing development, implementation, and instruction of the Surgical Technology degree program courses across multiple campuses
Courses will be a combination of on-campus, online, or hybrid instructional delivery
Duties also include participation in college committees and participation in professional enhancement
Evaluates students' progress in attaining goals and objectives
Requests and maintains supplies and equipment and prepares budget requests
Prepares and maintains all required documentation and administrative reports
Meets with students, staff members, and other educators to discuss students' instructional programs and other issues
Assists with recruitment, retention, and job placement efforts and duties as otherwise assigned
Teaches program-specific courses in a classroom/lab/online environment that closely simulates the environment of the industry while maintaining knowledge of current trends and developments in the field
Evaluation and advisement of students in a classroom/lab/online setting
Works with Associate Dean to create course schedules
Ensures safety and security requirements are met in the discipline area which includes regular safety audits of each program area and lab
Supports faculty to ensure all equipment is in working order
Suggests new/updated technology to remain current with trends and developments within the field
Ensure students are instructed in and follow all safety rules for operating equipment and using tools
Ensure classrooms and work areas are properly cleaned and maintained at all times
Ensure work-related projects are completed and that they meet industrial standards
Develops program curriculum, syllabi, goals, and objectives based on state standards; prepares lesson plans for classroom instruction for division-specific program courses; evaluates students’ progress in attaining goals and objectives
Establishes, measures, and evaluates program or departmental student learning outcomes and ensures content and instructional activities are integrated into course delivery that will result in students achieving desired outcomes, documenting their attainment and reporting within the Taskstream system
Correlation of clinical education with didactic education using approved curriculum format
Responsible for development and course edits to Blackboard master course shells
Periodic revision and selection of course materials including textbooks, instructional supplements and aids, and online educational resources
Review and revision of program handbooks/manuals
Coordinates, reviews, and recommends program expenditures for program needs within established budget parameters and administrative procedures
Oversees program budget and approves purchase requisitions for supplies and equipment
Maintains appropriate CAAHEP ARC/STSA accreditation for the program; has current knowledge of accreditation policies and procedures
Maintains annual reporting guidelines for CAAHEP ARC/STSA
Attends program IFCC meetings
Maintains assurance of effective program operations and manages ongoing program assessment
Manages and supports all full-time and adjunct program faculty; completes evaluation of and observation of adjunct faculty; participates in training of all full-time faculty
Plans and participates in program advisory committee, ensures minutes, Plan of Work, and committee membership list are uploaded to Knightro Connect promptly
Consult with the appropriate Dean or Associate Dean on full-time and adjunct faculty staffing needs
Assists with student recruitment, retention, and job placement efforts
Position may require committee and project assignments or other duties as assigned as well as day/evening/distance learning classes and activities
Maintains ARC/STSA CST(NBSTSA) credential, as required by accrediting body
Plans and Holds regularly scheduled faculty meetings

Required

Bachelor's degree from a regionally or nationally accredited college or university
Current Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA)
Minimum of three (3) years of full-time clinical experience in surgical technology in an operating room setting
Minimum of 2 years full time teaching experience in an accredited surgical technology program
Demonstrated knowledge of surgical procedures, aseptic technique, patient safety standards, and operating room protocols

Preferred

Master's degree in a related health science, education, or leadership field
Previous experience serving as a Program Director, Clinical Coordinator, or lead instructor in a Surgical Technology program
Experience with Accreditation Review Council on Education in Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (ARC/STSA) and Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) accreditation standards, self-studies, and site visits
4 years teaching experience in technical education, including curriculum development and student assessment
Familiarity with Blackboard Ultra or other Learning Management Systems (LMS)
Experience with clinical affiliation management, student supervision in clinical settings, and compliance documentation
Demonstrated leadership, communication, and organizational skills necessary to support student success, faculty development, and program accreditation compliance
