Data Center Technician
The University of Colorado Boulder is seeking a Data Center Technician to work within the Office of Information Technology for campus data centers. This role involves operational support for customer-facing operations and critical data center infrastructure, ensuring efficient service delivery and maintenance.

Responsibilities
Customer Deployments: Be responsible for participating in customer facing communications as it pertains to coordinating the deployment of new equipment & customers within campus data center spaces. Participate in physical duties as it pertains to installation (PDU, server & cabling), labeling, and receiving operations. This role will be responsible for the upkeep of data center records via DCIM tool
Remote Hands: This position will perform communication and completion of received customer requests that vary from visual inspections of customer environments, connecting of crash-carts, cabling changes, server component installs/troubleshooting, shipping operations, and the escorting of third-party vendors
Cancels/Decommissions: Assist in customer facing communication as it pertains to coordinating and confirming the cancellation of data center services. This role will also help with the physical action of uninstalling data center hardware, updating DCIM records, removal of cabling, and engagement of asset surplus procedures
Customer Site Access: Coordinate the provisioning and removal of customer site access for the campus data centers. This entails customer facing communication, updating of customer access & email lists, and the completion of data center tours
Service Documentation: This position in collaboration with the Data Center Manager will generate and update the published documentation as it relates to data center services
Monitoring: Be responsible for the processing of service and infrastructure alarms both during and after-hours. This is to include alert response, physical action, and the performing of escalations based on standard operating procedures
Preventative Maintenance: Assist in the engagement/contact and escorting of vendors and/or CU Facilities department related to the preventative maintenance of the critically important data center infrastructure (chillers, CRACs/CRAHs, UPS, Generators, and security hardware)
Inspections & Walkthroughs: This position performs reviews of completed site walkthroughs and will be responsible for creating tickets/cases to address non-passing findings. The Technician will also perform site walkthroughs as needed
Inventory Management: Be responsible for completing inventory cycle counts and audits along with general receiving operations. This will also include the allocation of consumables and assets needed for customer deployment and creation of project bill of materials (BOMs)
Emergency Procedures & Documentation: Be responsible for performing emergency procedures when initiated during service impacting events. Assist in the update & creation of both emergency procedures and facility-based SOPs relating investigating & operating critically important infrastructure
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution. A combination of education and/or relevant experience as described below may be substituted for a degree on a year for year basis
At least two years of professional experience in a related field
A Valid U.S. Driver's License
Positive demeanor and good work ethic
Demonstrable ability to track and manage multiple tasks at the same time
Highly organized and meticulous approach to all work tasks and products
Ability to work both as a team and independently as needed
Preferred
Experience with network and fiber testers (Fluke/Viaavi)
Datacom cabling certifications (copper & fiber)
Experience with server/pc hardware repair
Experience supporting data center critical infrastructure (CRACs/CRAHs, pumps, chillers, UPS systems, generators, electrical panels/breakers)
Experience in an IT field
