American Public Media Group is the organization behind LAist, a nonprofit news organization focused on Southern California. They are seeking an intern to assist with research and production for on-demand audio products, providing a meaningful experience in a public media newsroom.

Media and Entertainment

Responsibilities

Learn and perform various tasks that potentially include production, reporting, interviewing, writing, recording and cutting tape
Assist with research of story ideas/segment concepts
Conduct pre-interviews for guests and book interviews
Produce additional content for web, broadcast and social
Administrative duties, including tracking metrics
Other duties as assigned

Required

Strong writing, editing, research and communication skills
Ability to manage several different projects at once
Ability to manage daily workload efficiently (good time management skills)
Ability to meet deadlines as assigned
Knowledge of AP Style
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Drive, Slides)
Familiarity with the fundamentals of broadcasting
Must be willing to work out of the LAist office in Pasadena, CA

Preferred

Interest in a journalism career
Familiarity with the values, sound of public radio
Some experience working in a broadcast or newsroom environment
Knowledge of digital editing technologies
Must be organized, responsible, and reliable
Must be willing and able to follow instructions
