Responsibilities
Oversee and organize the daily operations of the assignment desk and digital coverage
Provide day-to-day leadership and direction at the assignment desk for coverage
Coordinate and prioritize coverage needs, field crews, and logistics
RSVP for and coordinate station coverage of press conferences, news events, court cases and community events
Maintain and oversee newsroom calendars, including daily coverage plans and scheduled events
Communicate coverage plans clearly and efficiently with newsroom
Collaborate with reporters, photographers, producers, editors, and digital content staff to ensure thorough and timely coverage
Assist with planning and execution of live and breaking news coverage
Help support digital-first coverage decisions and content prioritization
Assist with writing, editing, and publishing digital content
Perform other duties as assigned based on station needs
Qualification
Required
Proven leadership skills and leadership ability, particularly in a newsroom or coverage-planning environment
Strong organizational skills with the ability to juggle multiple deadlines and priorities
Ability to work calmly and effectively in a fast-paced, breaking-news environment
2–3 years of experience in a newsroom or newsroom coordination role
Excellent communication, editorial judgment, and time-management skills
Experience working on an assignment desk, digital desk, or similar coordination role
Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to quickly produce clear, accurate digital content under deadline
Working knowledge of digital news workflows, breaking news coverage, and content prioritization
Familiarity with newsroom calendars, coverage planning tools, and digital publishing platforms
Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
Ability to collaborate effectively across departments, including news, digital, and marketing
Preferred
Experience with digital analytics, SEO best practices, and AI-based tools is a plus
