The New York State Education Department (NYSED) is seeking candidates for an Auditor 1 position in the Office of Audit Services. The role involves assisting in the conduct of audits related to external educational entities, preparing audit findings and reports, and reviewing financial documentation from various educational institutions.

Responsibilities
Serve as staff auditor on an audit team under the supervision of an auditor-in-charge and perform pre-audit surveys
Participate in the development of audit plans and programs by reviewing relevant documents, records, and reports
Participate in interviews of auditee staff to obtain required and necessary information for the conduct of audits
Examine source documents used by auditees to obtain documentation needed to accomplish audit objectives
Prepare written audit findings and reports, and recommend corrective action
Assist in the review of requisite financial documentation submitted by school districts, BOCES, private schools, non-public colleges and universities and other subrecipients of federal awards
Perform other duties, as assigned
Qualification
Required
Candidates must have a bachelor's degree in accounting, auditing, or taxation; or a bachelor's degree with 24 semester credit hours in accounting, auditing, or taxation courses and two years of professional experience in accounting/auditing or financial internal or field auditing, where you were responsible for the full range of activities in the design and/or review, analysis and management of accounting systems, resulting in the preparation of, or recommendations on, financial statements in accord with generally accepted accounting principles
A master's or higher degree in accounting, auditing, or taxation and one year of professional experience in accounting/auditing or financial internal or field auditing, where you were responsible for the full range of activities in the design and/or review, analysis and management of accounting systems, resulting in the preparation of, or recommendations on, financial statements in accord with generally accepted accounting principles; or a currently valid Certified Public Accountant license and registration issued by New York State
Candidates must have a bachelor's degree in accounting, auditing, or taxation or a bachelor's degree with 24 semester credit hours in accounting, auditing, or taxation courses
Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service as an Auditor 1
Candidates who are reachable on the Professional Career Opportunities (PCO) Select Titles eligible list may be considered for appointment
Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service in a title SALARY GRADE 16 or above deemed eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law
