Responsibilities
Replaces light fixtures, street lights, outlets, switches, breakers, and relay controls
Checks traffic lights to see that they are operating properly and makes minor replacements, if necessary
Digs pole holes, assists in setting poles, and sends up equipment and tools with a hand line
Occasionally works on poles
Assists in installing cable by preparing, tinning and wiping metals, preparing lugs, nipples, and taps, and in installing rack and racking cable
Assists in the repairing and rewiring of electrical equipment
Assists in the installation of circuit breaker, dry transformers, and similar equipment in electrical distributing stations
Performs simple trouble shooting on house lines
Operates a truck in hauling men and materials
Qualification
Required
Graduation from high school and one year of experience assisting a skilled electrician or equivalent; or any equivalent combination of training and experience
Knowledge of elementary principles of electricity
Knowledge of common practices, hand tools, materials and equipment used in the electrical trade
Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade
Ability to use common electrical tools
Ability to do mechanical work connected with the installation, repair and maintenance of electrical systems, and perform manual labor
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
Meet the health and physical condition standards deemed necessary and proper for performance of the duties
