Product Design Engineer – Customer Terminals, Amazon Leo CT PD

Amazon is an initiative to increase global broadband access through a constellation of satellites in low Earth orbit. They are seeking a Product Design Engineer to engage with a cross-disciplinary team to design and bring to market innovative consumer products for the Amazon Leo program, focusing on mechanical part and assembly design, testing, and evaluation.

Responsibilities

PD Direct Responsible Individual (DRI) for multiple system components (housings, PCBs, thermal components, etc)
Work with cross functional team to solve difficult electromechanical problems to enable the design
Identify key design constrains and priorities
Demonstrate solid mechanical fundamentals and judgement through design decisions
Deliver robust, flexible, durable, and performant designs
Concise and accurate communication with PD members, cross functional teams, and executives
Customer focused when solving ambiguous problems
Ability to create scalable solutions while solving tactical problems
Position will require international travel

Required

Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent
2+ years of consumer electronics experience
2+ years of experience working with product validation and conducting detailed FA following environmental stressing (Shock/Drop, Cycle Testing, Environmental Testing)
Experience with 3D CAD skills, ProEngineer
Experience creating surface model and top-down design architecture
Experience with Tolerance Analysis and Statistical Process Control
Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum

Preferred

Master's degree
Knowledge of tooling and materials process validation (SPC, Cp, CpK)
Demonstrated design experience with high volume/high finish consumer electronics enclosure materials
Demonstrated design experience integrating component modules (I/O, Displays, Batteries, PCBs, etc.)
Analytic problem solving skills, including knowledge of 8D, Six Sigma, DOE or similar disciplines
Demonstrated leadership and mentoring skills
