Junior Financial Analyst, Random House Publishing Group (Hybrid)

Penguin Random House is a leading adult and children's publishing house, seeking a detail-oriented self-starter to join their finance team as a Junior Financial Analyst. This role involves supporting financial operations, monthly reporting, and analysis for the Random House Publishing Group's growing imprints.

Publishing

Responsibilities

Supports RHPG Finance team and VP Finance & Strategy with departmental administrative needs
Supports monthly financial closings, including preparation of publisher close packages, analysis of sales, cost of goods sold, operating expenses, and title count
Creates monthly summaries of financial performance and key performance indicators for the RHPG and corporate teams
Tracks and analyzes departmental travel and entertainment (T&E) expenses quarterly
Manages quarterly Marketing spend analysis and assists marketing staff with updating marketing budgeting systems
Assists in the development of the annual budget and quarterly re-forecasts for the group, including model preparation and uploads to Anaplan
Supports VP Finance & Strategy with presentations to divisional and corporate leadership
Generates postmortem analysis of previous acquisitions/publications to help inform editorial decisions
Provides analysis to support production staff in making print and reprint decisions
Enhances and increases speed of monthly reporting, analysis and business intelligence utilizing software skills such as Microsoft Power BI

Required

Must be detail oriented with strong organizational and analytical skills
Must have a solid understanding of basic financial and accounting principles
Strong PC skills, including proficiency with Excel (ex: lookups and pivot tables) and PowerPoint
Excellent organizational skills, with an ability to multi-task and prioritize
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with colleagues across all levels and functions
Ability to take initiative and to work both independently and as part of a team
1 year of relevant work experience

Preferred

Degree in Business or Finance/Accounting preferred (but will consider candidates from other degree backgrounds with relevant experience and keen interest in the publishing industry)
Experience writing macros or using Visual Basic is a plus
Working knowledge of Microsoft PowerBI, Anaplan, and SAP preferred
