The University of Iowa's Department of Pathology is seeking a Laboratory Technician II to provide technical and clerical support for an outreach reference laboratory. The role involves triaging client specimens, coordinating specimen preparation and transport, and maintaining communication with clients and laboratory staff.

Responsibilities

Registers patients and accessions, handles, and triages specimens sent by clients destined for UIHC laboratories
Maintains the work environment
Answers the telephone and responds to email requests demonstrating effective verbal and written communication skills
Demonstrates time management skills
Performs other projects and tasks as assigned

Qualification

Laboratory Technician experienceCertified Laboratory AssistantMLA(ASCP) certificationBiological science courseworkCustomer Service experienceHealthcare experienceEffective communication skillsTime management skills

Required

High school plus two years of related laboratory experience, including one year as a Laboratory Technician I or equivalent level experience, or
Certified Laboratory Assistant (CLA) certification, or
Any combination of related post high school education and experience which totals two years

Preferred

MLA(ASCP) certification or eligible
Biological science coursework, i.e. Anatomy, Biology, etc…
Familiarity with UIHC policies and procedures
Healthcare experience
Customer Service experience
