Responsibilities
Assist in handling in-house litigation from inception to final resolution, including trial
Draft demand letters, responses to demands, discovery, pleadings, and law & motion
Make court appearances as needed
Assist the Chief Legal Officer with litigation strategy and resolution of claims; negotiate and draft settlement agreements
Coordinate and advise outside counsel on pending litigation matters
Work with business units to find creative solutions for legal issues
Perform other duties and special projects as assigned
Qualification
Required
Juris Doctorate and admission to the California State Bar required, however recent graduates awaiting California Bar Exam results will be considered
0 - 3 years of law firm or in-house litigation experience required
Strong legal writing and research skills using a variety of sources
Strong problem-solving skills. Ability to interact with coworkers in a professional, tactful, and sensitive manner
The ability to effectively communicate with outside counsel and opposing counsel, and to negotiate the resolution of issues
Preferred
Experience in consumer finance law is a plus
Experience in direct commercial lending or real estate is a plus
