Responsibilities

Monitoring water quality for inorganic and organic constituents to optimize plant processes and maintain regulatory requirements
Engaged in the physical, chemical, microbiological, or process-related analyses of wastewater samples in accordance with quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) policies and procedures
Extractions of water and wastewater samples for various parameters for compliance and process control requirements
Use of Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) for retrieving, tracking and entering analytical data
Compliance with safety requirements in the course of routine extractions
Tracking and ordering supplies

Required

Three years of standard laboratory tests or instrumental analyses in a public health, crime laboratory, or utility chemical laboratory, including courses in chemistry, bacteriology, or a related field
Other combinations of experience and education which meet the minimum requirements may be substituted
All finalists for positions are subject to a criminal background check applicable to the department or position
Some positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage

Preferred

Bachelor's degree in chemistry, microbiology, environmental sciences or closely related field
Experience with/in the following: Environmental Protection Agency and/or Arizona Department of Health Services policies and procedures for laboratory analysis
Experience with/in the following: An environmental, chemical, or public health laboratory
Experience with/in the following: Following laboratory Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), particularly for water/wastewater samples
Experience with/in the following: Following Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) policies and procedures
Experience with/in the following: Basic maintenance on laboratory instruments and equipment as needed
Experience with/in the following: Ordering standards, reagents, and laboratory supplies, and maintaining chemical and consumables inventories using inventory software
Experience with/in the following: Laboratory data entry procedures and Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS)
Experience with/in the following: Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.)
Experience with/in the following: Lab equipment and apparatuses for liquid - liquid sample extractions and solid phase extractions (SPE)
Experience with/in the following: Sample extractions and organic chemical analyses
