(VMS) Engineering Writer and Instructor

Apex Systems is hiring a dual‑role Technical Instructor / Engineering Writer to support advanced electronic systems, sensors, and radar technologies in a mission‑focused environment. This role involves teaching complex systems and creating high‑quality technical documentation while collaborating with engineers and subject‑matter experts.

Responsibilities

Develop and update technical training curriculum using Instructional Systems Design / Systems Approach to Training (ISD/SAT) methodologies
Deliver customer training aligned to military training standards
Teach system theory, operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair
Conduct instruction in classroom/lecture and hands‑on lab environments
Create training artifacts such as:
Training program plans
Job task analyses
Course outlines
Lesson plans
Trainee guides, job aids, and assessments
Write, rewrite, and edit technical publications for electronic sensors and systems
Develop manuals covering:
System descriptions
Operation and maintenance
Troubleshooting and repair
Parts and support information
Research and compile information from contractual documents and engineering sources
Ensure publications comply with military specifications and standards
Publish content in:
Page‑based formats
Electronic (basic and interactive) formats
Structured formats (HTML, XML, SGML)
Conduct quality reviews of technical manuals and documentation

Qualification

Required

Bachelor's degree in a STEM or related discipline
OR minimum of 3 years' experience in military operations and maintenance supporting: Radar systems, Communications systems, Electro‑optics, Networks or IT‑based sensors/systems
U.S. Citizenship required
Active DoD Secret clearance
Experience developing or supporting technical training curriculum
Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
Highly organized, proactive, detail‑oriented, and self‑motivated
Ability to perform physically demanding tasks in challenging environmental conditions
Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally

Preferred

Certified military instructor experience
5+ years of engineering or technical writing experience
SCORM‑compliant courseware development experience
Courseware media or interactive training development background
Experience publishing structured documentation (HTML, XML, SGML)
Ability to collaborate effectively with engineers, instructors, writers, and program leads
