Responsibilities
Manage the day-to-day administration of the workers' compensation programs
Responsible for the oversight of claims management and communication with employees, managers, attorneys, and Third-Party Administrator (TPA)
Serve as workers' compensation professional subject matter expert for assigned jurisdictions to support all divisions, departments and business partners across Delta
Proactively provide guidance and ongoing education to internal and external customers on Delta Air Lines and/or State-specific workers' compensation policies and procedures
Assist in the education of internal business partners of the importance of early claim reporting, early return to work programs and other appropriate cost containment measures that will provide positive outcomes for all parties involved
Identify trends in service concerns, recommend the appropriate course of action for improvement and development of vendor performance standards and adherence to contractual requirements
Ensure that claims handling is conducted in compliance with applicable state regulations, work comp laws, corporate policies and other legal requirements
Work closely with TPA and Delta HR to identify, de-escalate and document current or potential escalation situations, reaching out to employees when issues arise in order to provide high levels of customer service and employee advocacy
Help to identify areas of opportunity in the highly integrated workers' compensation programs and work with management and operations to streamline processes
Primary contact for Delta, TPA, Defense Counsel; responsible for monitoring claims handling for quality purposes and monitoring/participating in litigation processes with a goal of bringing litigated files to claims resolution
Qualification
Required
3 to 5 years of workers' compensation claims management and/or TPA vendor oversight experience with a large employer-based company
Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure with minimal supervision and respond quickly to high priority requests
Experience in Access, Excel, MS Office suite of products, and SAP
Ability to use Insurance Carrier/TPA data and claims management systems to analyze claim data
Understanding of technical claims procedures, medical protocols and Insurance Industry Best Practices
Ability to practice good judgment in interpreting medical facts presented by a physician and applying these facts while reviewing workers compensation files
Excellent critical, logical-thinking, analytical, and research skills
Must demonstrate clear, concise, and effective oral and written communication skills. Convey moderately complex information (claim decisions, outcomes, etc.) to all appropriate parties, while maintaining a professional demeanor in all situations
Ability to anticipate and identify problems and suggest opportunities/solutions
Must possess the ability to effectively interact with a variety of individuals within the company, clients, carriers, and third-party vendor organizations
Must be versatile, resilient, responsive to change, and adapt to unexpected demands based on business needs
Should possess an overall knowledge of company policies and procedures
Good time management, multi-tasking, project management and organizational skills with great attention to detail
Must be able to travel 30%-40%, when required
Consistently prioritizes safety and security of self, others, and personal data
Embraces diverse people, thinking, and styles
Is at least 18 years of age and has authorization to work in the United States
Preferred
Bachelor's degree in business, Risk Management, Human Resources Management, BSN, Vocational Rehabilitation, or closely related field
Experience in aviation is a plus
Prior work comp experience within MN, MI, NY, CA, WA and OH jurisdictions is a plus
