Laboratory Technical Specialist-Hematology Instruction
Inova Health is a leading nonprofit healthcare provider in Northern Virginia, seeking a dedicated Laboratory Technical Specialist with expertise in hematology. The role involves training new staff, ensuring quality assurance, and participating in laboratory inspections and quality improvement projects.

Responsibilities
Training new staff, and competency assessment
Follows standard protocol for patient/donor identification and specimen/blood product labeling including final verification
Prepares and distributes specimens to departments according to specimen requirement and priority delivery
Documents, per facility process, when a specimen does not meet acceptable criteria for result reporting
Uses department resources efficiently during instrument operations. Avoids urgent supply requests and inventory loss due to expiration; Properly receives and stores supplies
Actively ensures quality assurance in the department by performing required quality control procedures including corrective action and documentation for all procedures/instrumentation
Leads and/or actively participates in quality improvement projects by enhancing team and departmental development; Provides constructive feedback and positive reinforcement to coworkers
Serves as a Laboratory CAP/AABB on site inspector. Participates and helps prepare Laboratory for self and on-site inspections; Participates in Laboratory clinical practice teams, Inova Health System committees and hospital teams
Acts as a resource person/ key operator for coworkers, customers and patients for technical questions; Demonstrates an expanded knowledge of technical and administrative tasks beyond normal technical operations

Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in science from a college/university recognized by regional or national accreditation agency
3 years of experience in an accredited laboratory under the supervision of a pathologist certified by the American Board of Pathology
ASCP Certification consistent with the scope of responsibility (MLS/MT, MLT, HT, HTL, BB, C, H, M, CT) or American Medical Technologists (AMT) or Laboratory Technologist Certification (HEW)
Preferred
Previous experience performing, implementing, and troubleshooting culture and molecular (qualitative and quantitative) based infectious disease testing
Instructional experience preferred
