Staff Failure Analysis Engineer, Discrete Devices
Tesla is a leading electric vehicle and clean energy company, seeking a Staff Failure Analysis Engineer for their Discrete Devices team. This role involves conducting root cause analysis of semiconductor components and collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams to improve product quality.

Responsibilities
Utilize analytical tools and techniques to support failure analysis investigations on low and high voltage electronic components at package and die level
Perform functional testing and board level debug to reproduce symptoms, isolate failing components, and confirm electrical failure modes
Perform fault isolation on discrete devices, low voltage controllers, and high voltage semiconductor power devices
Perform sample preparation techniques to facilitate component fault isolation including mechanical cross section, parallel lapping, chemical decapsulation, chemical etching and plasma etching
Collaborate with engineers from Design, Quality, Manufacturing Test, and Supplier Industrialization teams to support containment and to propose corrective actions for defects found in failure analysis
Produce written reports that clearly convey results of failure with guidance
Create design of experiments to test hypotheses and gain knowledge on recreating failure
Qualification
Required
Bachelor of Science Degree in Material Science, Electrical, Mechanical, or Electromechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience
5+ years hands on experience in discrete device and semiconductor failure analysis
Proficient operator of Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM, Dual Beam SEM/FIB Preferred) and other electrical/material analysis techniques
Proficient in semiconductor fault isolation techniques such as Optical Beam Induced Resistance Change, Photon Emission Microscopy, and Lock in Thermography
Proficient in sample preparation techniques such as cross sectioning, chemical decapsulation, and IC delayering
Proficient at reading schematics, datasheets, and troubleshooting analog and digital circuits
Strong written and verbal communication skills required (English)
Demonstrated interpersonal skills through team projects or leadership roles
Preferred
Deep understanding of semiconductor fabrication, theory, and usage is preferred
Hands-on experience with electrical testing tools like DMM, Power Supplies, and Oscilloscopes
