This role is designed to build foundational knowledge and hands-on skills in electric utility distribution systems while working closely with experienced crews.

Responsibilities
Assisting with overhead (OH) and underground (URD) line construction on de-energized systems
Framing poles, installing anchors and guys, and clearing right-of-way
Learning proper care, use, and maintenance of tools, materials, and equipment
Supporting service and transformer installations on non-energized poles and systems
Participating in training for CPR, first aid, pole-top and bucket rescue, and safe work practices
Beginning to climb poles under supervision in training scenarios and on cold poles
Practicing safe operation of power tools and personal protective equipment
Learning basic electrical theory, distribution system layouts, and grounding
Gaining familiarity with staking sheets, material tickets, and cooperative rate structures
Qualification
Required
Candidate must have a positive attitude toward the delivery of the highest level of service possible to Blue Ridge members
Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
Must reside within 30 minutes of the district location
Must have a current, valid commercial driver's license at all times and a safe driving record
Must have current D.O.T. physical exam (continuously)
Must pass, on a continuing basis, all required drug screens and tests
Must be able to work overtime and on-call
Willingness to learn and work outdoors in all weather conditions
Ability to follow safety practices and instructions precisely
Physical ability to perform manual labor and climb utility poles
Strong teamwork, communication, and work ethic
Preferred
Prior experience in electrical utility work or vocational training
