RCT Principal Technologist

Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) manages and operates the Nevada National Security Site for the U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration. They are seeking a Principal Radiological Control Technician to provide technical direction, mentor staff, and ensure safety and compliance in radiological operations.

Responsibilities

Resolves conflicting design requirements, utilizing unconventional materials and complex coordination
Assignments may be self-initiated, pursuing courses of action based on broadly defined project requirements
Viewed by colleagues as an accomplished technical performer and lead
Assigned areas include U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) properties and other locations within the U.S
Prior to use, verify that radiological instrumentation is functioning properly. Such instrumentation includes, but is not limited to, air sampling equipment, dose rate meters, and contamination monitors
Provides technical direction
Trains and mentors less experienced technical staff
Ensure generation of records for radiation surveys and other job activities utilize appropriate forms and logbooks, as required
Implement stop work authority in a responsible manner when radiological or safety conditions warrant
Assist, as assigned, in accident or occurrence investigations
Support/participate with and be a member of various emergency response teams with the potential of U.S. and worldwide travel
Coordinate assigned work with other technical personnel as directed
Maintain training and qualifications current and attend onsite and offsite training as necessary to maintain competency in the radiological control field
Perform related work as assigned by supervisor
Research records of potential radiological sites to determine whether sites are radiologically impacted. Ensure that corrective actions taken to mitigate hazards are properly implemented and effective in eliminating unsafe conditions
Organize, evaluate, and interpret data by comparison against standards and guidelines
Assist in developing procedures, work plans, and work control documents

Required

Associate degree in field related to the position plus at least 9 years' progressive related experience or High School diploma plus 11 years' progressive related experience
Must be currently qualified or be able to qualify within 6 months of start date to the DOE Radiological Control Technician (RCT) standardized core training programs
Current knowledge of industry and regulatory standards and criteria pertinent to radiological control required
Ability to work independently or in a team environment on a wide variety of tasks is critical
Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat, and Outlook is required
Must be fitted for and qualify for use with various respiratory protection and personal protective equipment
Airplane and helicopter mechanics: Airframe and Power plant (A&P) FAA certificate required
Must be able to participate in National Response Asset Deployment activities
Must possess a valid driver's license
MSTS is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications
Applicants offered employment with MSTS are also subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance
Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship, at least 18 years of age

Preferred

OJT/Instructor Training experience desired or achieve internal company certification within 1 year of start date
National Registry of Radiation Protection Technologist (NRRPT) certification desired
