Research Assistant VI (1199 SEIU)

New York Medical College is seeking a dedicated and skilled individual to join the Histology and Imaging Core in the Department of Pathology, Microbiology and Immunology. The histotechnologist will be responsible for day-to-day operations of the core, providing routine histology and special staining services to the research community.

Responsibilities

Perform histology procedures including tissue processing, embedding, sectioning, staining, and mounting of tissue samples
Operate and maintain laboratory equipment and instruments
Maintain accurate records
Adhere to laboratory safety protocols and quality control standards
Prepare reagents and solutions for laboratory procedures

Required

High School Diploma
Proficient computer skills for data entry and result reporting
At least two years of experience working in a clinical or research laboratory setting
Familiarity with laboratory techniques such as immunohistochemistry and molecular diagnostics
Experience with using cryostat and preparing frozen sections
Effective communication skills
Ability to multitask and prioritize workload
Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods
Manual dexterity
Visual acuity
Exposure to hazards (chemicals, biologic materials) require use of personal protective equipment (gloves, mask, lab coat, etc)
Training and refreshers provided by the Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) department are required

Preferred

An associate degree in histotechnology from a program accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS)
American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Board of Certification's Histotechnician License
