Cloud Solution Architect

The Cloud Solution Architect will be responsible for designing, building, and integrating enterprise cloud solutions while working closely with development teams and business stakeholders to deliver secure and scalable cloud-native architectures.
Responsibilities
Lead the hands-on design, development, and deployment of cloud-native applications and services
Build and configure cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, ARM, and CloudFormation
Migrate legacy applications to cloud platforms by refactoring them for microservices, serverless, or container-based architectures
Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues to ensure high availability and optimal performance
Implement automation for CI/CD pipelines and DevSecOps practices to streamline development and operational processes
Guide development teams in applying cloud architecture patterns and best practices, ensuring robust and scalable solutions
Conduct technical reviews, code walkthroughs, and architecture validation sessions
Collaborate with business and IT stakeholders to translate requirements into actionable cloud solutions
Mentor junior architects and engineers to foster skill development and effective solution delivery within the team
Focus on security-by-design principles in all cloud solutions, ensuring strict compliance with NIST, FedRAMP, and state cybersecurity standards
Implement secure data exchange and interoperability through modern messaging and API technologies
Continuously optimize cloud resources to achieve the best balance of cost, performance, and scalability
Document solution architectures, technical decisions, and implementation steps using industry-standard modeling tools
Communicate technical concepts and trade-offs clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
Support agency modernization initiatives and stay current with evolving cloud technologies and public sector trends
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience on a year for year basis)
10+ years in application design and development, with 5+ years in hands-on cloud architecture roles
5+ years of experience with cloud technologies and DevOps tools
Advanced proficiency in designing, building, and troubleshooting cloud-native solutions (microservices, serverless, containers)
Proficiency with AWS, Azure, and GCP—deploying, configuring, and managing native services for computer, networking, security, and data
Expertise in Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform, ARM, CloudFormation) and automation of cloud deployments
Proficiency in designing solutions using modern development stacks (Java, .NET, Node.js, Python)
Strong skills in DevOps/GitOps, CI/CD pipeline setup, and cloud monitoring tools
Practical proficiency with API gateway management, service mesh, and secure API development
Ability to lead technical teams in solution delivery, code reviews, and architecture validation
Proficient in migrating and refactoring legacy applications for cloud environments
Deep knowledge of cloud security, compliance frameworks, and secure data exchange
Skilled communicator, able to document and present technical solutions and decisions
Knowledge of critical federal and state cybersecurity and risk management frameworks (e.g., NIST 800-53, FISMA, FedRAMP, CMMC), and experience designing compliant systems
Knowledge of enterprise data exchange standards relevant to the public sector (e.g., NIEM, HL7, FHIR) and experience with modern messaging/middleware technologies for secure data interoperability
Exceptional problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making abilities with a proven track record of guiding cross-functional teams to consensus on complex architectural challenges
Adept at balancing enterprise standards with project agility to drive technical innovation while maintaining governance and security
Effective communicator and technical leader, capable of presenting complex architecture roadmaps and technical concepts to both executive stakeholders and development teams
Ability to evaluate and modernize legacy applications for scalability, interoperability, and security
Ability to assess trade-offs between technology, cost, and long-term maintainability
Ability to lead cross-functional architecture initiatives across agencies or divisions
Ability to present architectural recommendations clearly to executive decision-makers
Ability to drive alignment between business, data, and technical domains
Ability to stay current with evolving public sector technology trends, including zero-trust security, cloud migration, and shared platforms
Skill in solving problems; in scheduling, testing, installing, and implementing programs; and in troubleshooting computer systems
Ability to analyze systems and procedures, to write and revise standards and procedures, and to communicate effectively
Ability to oversee and/or supervise the work of others
Preferred
Certifications such as AWS/Azure Certified Solutions Architect, TOGAF, or equivalent are preferred
