VMTH/BMS Finance Analyst (FINANCIAL ANL 3 CX)

UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine is seeking an experienced analyst to support their financial services team. The role involves providing high-level analytical and problem-solving support regarding budgeting, financial transactions, and fiscal management for the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital and Biological Media Services.

Responsibilities

Provide high level analytical and problem-solving support to the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VMTH) and Biological Media Services (BMS) for matters concerning policy, budgeting and financial transactions of significant complexity
Operate with a high degree of independence and autonomy on a day-to-day basis
Provide high level fiscal, analytical, administrative and policy/procedure support for the VMTH and BMS with multiple funding sources including general funds, self-supporting funds, and reserve funds
Prepare routine and ad-hoc financial reports using data from campus general ledger and the hospital Veterinary Medical & Administrative Computer System (VMACS)
Oversee BMS’s direct business functions and monitor funding and expenditures to include budget development and financial reporting
Develop and analyze rates for internal and external clients of BMS
Responsible for complex fiscal management and high-level analysis of VMTH’s Accounts Receivable totaling over $70M and directs VMTH Client Services Account Receivable staff on processes and procedures for financial transactions in hospital billing system
Primary responsibility for all revenue contract management (i.e. client, resident salary support, outside faculty work) working with VMTH faculty, Supply Chain Management staff and outside clients
Responsible for capital equipment management to include purchasing and inventory administration

Required

Bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration or finance or equivalent experience
Experience using advanced features of MS Excel to perform detailed analyses, including Pivot tables, VLOOKUPS and creating charts and graphs; word processing, database systems, email, web-based software and on-line financial and payroll/personnel systems
Strong financial and business management skills and experience to perform extensive in-depth budgetary and financial analyses as well as document such activities and utilize strong mathematical skills to accurately calculate, manipulate and evaluate large volumes of data
Critical thinking and analytical skills to independently anticipate, identify problems, perform thoughtful, detailed research to resolve such problems and propose effective solutions
Excellent attention to detail in reviewing, compiling, analyzing and presenting data, with focus on accuracy, consistency of format and professionalism
Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills to prepare clear, accurate correspondence and reports; and to communicate clearly, effectively, and professionally in person, by phone and by email with a diverse group of people in order to clarify complex technical and policy issues and help address questions/resolve problems
Ability using organizational skills to multi-task in a high-volume environment, adapting to changing priorities when needed

Preferred

Experience interpreting and applying University and campus policy and procedures, specifically accounting practices and procedures; business contracts and self-supporting funds
Experience in Aggie Enterprise, Cognos and Veterinary Medical and Administrative Computer System (VMACS) and the ability to learn new systems as required
Experience working in a university setting
Knowledge of UC clinical education organizations, respective roles, financial policies and practices as they relate to business operations including budgeting, accounting, business contracts, purchasing, payroll and personnel
