Human Resources Assistant
Step Up is a nationally recognized nonprofit mental health and housing provider dedicated to promoting positive growth, wellness, and stability for individuals facing mental health challenges and homelessness. They are seeking a detail-oriented Human Resources Assistant to facilitate HR processes including onboarding, benefits administration, employee relations, and administrative support.

Responsibilities
Onboarding & Orientation: Coordinate new hire onboarding, prepare offer letters, process background checks, and schedule orientations
Record Management: Complete I-9 verification, maintain personnel files, and ensure data accuracy for new hires in HRIS systems
Employee Support: Respond to employee inquiries regarding HR processes, benefits, and general questions
Benefits Administration: Assist with health and welfare plan enrollments, changes, and terminations. Process payroll and insurance documents and reconcile benefits statements
Leave Management: Manage FMLA and other leaves of absence in compliance with federal and state guidelines
Collaboration: Coordinate with payroll on pay exceptions and ensure smooth communication between HR and other departments
Compliance & Auditing: Support audits for payroll, benefits, and other HR programs, recommending corrective actions as needed
Recruitment Support: Track candidates in HRIS, schedule interviews, and send follow-up communications during recruitment
Qualification
Required
Associate's degree in a related field or equivalent experience
A minimum of 1 year of Human Resources experience within the state of California is required
1 year of working in the Non-profit sector
Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Preferred
Experience with ADP Workforce Now
Knowledge of applicant tracking systems (ATS)
