Engineering Technician II – Wilmington Construction

Responsibilities
Ensuring the quality, safety, and compliance of roadway and structure construction projects
Serving as an on-site inspector and surveyor, providing technical support to engineers in the administration of highway construction projects
Monitoring contractors’ daily operations
Performing and reviewing materials testing and inspection reports
Verifying that construction activities meet required standards and specifications
Assisting with project stakeout and surveying tasks
Monitoring and documenting utility relocation work
Ensuring proper alignment and conformance with project requirements
Identifying and resolving constructability issues in the field to mitigate delays and maintain project schedules
Anticipating potential contractual or design issues and advising supervisors on the need for plan revisions, supplemental agreements, or other adjustments
Ensuring compliance with Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) requirements, environmental permits, and the North Carolina Sedimentation and Pollution Control Act
Coordinating with engineers, contractors, subcontractors, utility owners, and property owners to support timely and efficient project completion
Qualification
Required
General knowledge of construction inspection and surveying principles and practices
Demonstrate proficiency in basic mathematics
Capable of performing accurate field calculations
Attention to detail
Sound judgment
Ability to work safely in outdoor environments with exposure to construction site hazards such as traffic, heights, and uneven terrain
Moderate physical activity, including walking, climbing, balancing, kneeling, and standing
Associate's degree in an applicable area of Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or a related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution and two (2) years of progressive technician level experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Preferred
Experience with contract administration
Knowledge in understanding contracts, plans, standards and specifications
Experience in performing inspection, sampling, and testing of materials (concrete, asphalt density) to ensure compliance with NCDOT specifications
Working knowledge of computer equipment, (I-pads, desktop), software (HiCams and Share Point) and mathematical functions
Experience in maintaining neat, legible and accurate records and reports, including computer/iPad data entry
