Responsibilities

Conducts regular surveillance to determine the presence of infections
Screens all patients and identifies those with active infection potential from the neonate through geriatrics
Review all culture reports to identify cultures in which a specific pathogen has been isolated and makes appropriate recommendations
Collaborates with laboratory and pharmacy personnel in identifying and analyzing any issues requiring special handling or follow up
Makes patient rounds on each unit to identify possible infectious processes and to evaluate previously instituted infection control measures
Reports to the Public Health Department specific disease entities required by law which are present within the hospital, and those seen as out patients in the Emergency Room

Qualification

CA Registered Nurse licenseInfection control knowledgeEpidemiology principlesHealthcare experienceAPICE membership

Required

Current and valid CA Registered Nurse license required
Maintains membership in the San Francisco Bay Area Association of Professions in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APICE)
Knowledge of theory, techniques and practices of infection control and employee health
Minimum five years experience as a Registered Nurse
