The role involves performing inspections in zoning, building, and minimum livability, as well as preparing policies and procedures.

Responsibilities
Schedules inspections in the construction process for building, zoning, marine, and other projects
Performs field inspections and prepares written reports for over lot grading, right-of-way, entrance, critical area/environmental permits and planting agreements, and forest conservation
Performs plan review and inspections on storm water management projects to ensure they are constructed per approved plans
Prepares sketches of site conditions and proposes designs/solutions to rectify field conditions:
Investigates complaints and resolves problems concerning citizen complaints and other inquiries
Checks grade, alignment of swales, and other storm water devices to ensure proper drainage on residential lots
Performs Minimum Livability Code (Rentals houses) inspections
Will be required to be on call-out duty as needed
Performs other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
High school diploma or G.E.D
Five years or more of related professional experience
Or equivalent technical training, education, and/or experience
Ability to gain thorough knowledge of St. Mary's County Government policies and procedures
Ability to effectively supervise and communicate with other staff and members of the public
Ability to learn relevant plan review and inspection procedures, and knowledge of relevant local, State, and Federal planning and zoning ordinances, codes, regulations and/or laws
Ability to disseminate the above information to contractors and others
Ability to use available resources to research information
Ability to prepare and maintain accurate records
Ability to follow through with assigned tasks
Ability to schedule, supervise, and train others
