Recycling Educational Intern
NEOGOV is offering a student internship opportunity in Solid Waste Management. The intern will gain hands-on experience in recycling education, community engagement, data management, and field operations at the landfill and transfer station.

Responsibilities
Assist in developing, planning, and executing recycling outreach and education programs
Support creation of educational materials such as flyers, presentations, social media posts, and videos
Participate in school presentations, community workshops, public events, and facility tours
Interact with the public to promote proper recycling habits and answer recycling-related questions
Help collect, organize, and analyze program data for internal reporting and grant tracking
Assist with data entry and database maintenance related to waste diversion, participation metrics, and outreach outcomes
Assist with general field work at the landfill and transfer station, including facility inspections and monitoring tasks
Conduct or support lab sampling and basic environmental testing (leachate, stormwater, etc.) under supervision
Help maintain accurate records related to field and lab work
Support special projects related to waste diversion, site safety, and environmental compliance
Investigation of project sites and incidents (such as illegal dumping, environmental complaints, small quantity generator follow up)
Supports strategic plan for the Division of Solid Waste Management
Performs other duties as assigned or as may be necessary
Qualification
Required
Must be currently enrolled, with at least two years completed, in a higher education organization (university, college, or technical institute)
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License
Must be able to compose effective and accurate correspondence
Must possess the ability to effectively interact with internal and external customers and at all levels of the organization
Must be skilled in written and verbal communication
Must be willing to get wet, dirty, muddy, and to work in all weather conditions
Must be able to lift and carry tools, equipment, and materials (over 20 lbs.)
Must be comfortable leading and speaking in front of large groups
Must have experience in Microsoft Office software such as Excel, PowerPoint, Word and other various software for program staff support
All employees must attend Seminole County Required Trainings
