Recycling Specialist III (SR-20)
The County of Maui is seeking a Recycling Specialist III to assist in implementing and coordinating county-wide recycling and waste reduction programs. The role involves organizing, developing, and monitoring these programs, along with conducting feasibility studies and preparing reports.

Responsibilities
Under general supervision, organizes, develops, implements and monitors existing and proposed recycling, reuse and waste reduction programs, demonstration projects, and educational and promotional activities; disseminates pertinent materials to schools, community groups and associations; conducts feasibility and system design studies through on-site investigation of facilities; establishes and monitors accounts relative to the various programs; processes registration forms and license applications; verifies qualifications and secures compliance agreements; maintains databases related to recycling, and recycling programs; compiles and evaluates data and statistics; conducts research; responds to recycling related queries from business, community organizations and the general public; prepares correspondence and reports
Qualification
Required
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a major in business or public administration, urban planning, civil or environmental engineering, environmental science, public health, psychology, sociology, or a related field
Two (2) years of experience in the implementation and coordination of a recycling, waste reduction, waste recovery or comparable program
Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license (Type 3)
Knowledge of principles of psychology, sociology and human behavior
Professional knowledge of recycling, reuse, waste reduction, and waste recovery trends and developments
Knowledge of government and community organizations and functions
Knowledge of principles and techniques of preparing informational and educational materials
Knowledge of publicity methods and media
Knowledge of research methods and techniques
Computer and report writing skills
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with various segments of the public
Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with various private, governmental and community organizations
Ability to develop and coordinate recycling informational, educational, and promotional activities
Ability to understand and communicate technical information concerning recycling programs
Ability to evaluate programs and recommend improvements
Ability to understand, interpret and apply laws, rules, and regulations
Ability to prepare analytical reports with recommendations
Meet the health and physical condition standards deemed necessary and proper for performance of the duties
