HVAC Mechanic I - Central Prison

The N.C. Department of Information Technology is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives through the care and supervision of adults sentenced for violating laws. They are seeking an HVAC Mechanic I to provide journey level work in heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration, including installation and maintenance of HVAC systems.

Responsibilities

Providing journey level work in the areas of Heating/Air Conditioning and Refrigeration
Designing, installing services and repairing HVAC energy control management systems in renovations and construction
Assisting in installing electrical conduit and wiring for HVAC electricals circuits
Performing preventive maintenance
Instructing lower level assistants and offenders in performing less technical repairs
Providing technical guidance and support to other staff members in HVAC energy control management system
Working by instruction from supervisor, by policies, the NC building code manuals, OSHA regulations, and safety policies
Requiring great physical effort in the installation, repair and removal of HVAC systems
Working with close custody and minimum custody offenders and having frequent contact with those offenders
Performing repairs on equipment outside his/her specialty trade as needed
Being diversified and having general knowledge of several trades

Required

High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma
Three years of progressive experience in the installation, maintenance or repair of air conditioning chillers, air handling, chilled water distribution and control systems
Current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations part 82, subpart F
Documented knowledge of practices, methods, materials and equipment used in the operation, maintenance, and repair of air-conditioning and refrigeration systems
