Depot Safety Manager (Program Manager, Grade N25)

Montgomery County Department of Transportation is seeking an experienced Program Manager II to lead their team in delivering safe, reliable, and high-quality transit service. The Depot Safety Manager will oversee the Agency Safety Plan across all Ride On depots, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and providing strategic leadership and operational oversight for transit bus operators and staff.

Responsibilities

Provide leadership and direction to employees on safety and security matters, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement
Act as Depot Chief in their absence to ensure seamless business continuity and operational stability
Collect, analyze, and maintain transit system data; prepare performance reports and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements
Monitor and evaluate staff performance, schedules, budgets, and overtime to optimize efficiency and service delivery
Participate in safety committees and champion initiatives that enhance workplace and rider safety
Focus on staff development by identifying training needs, mentoring employees, and creating opportunities for professional growth
Build and strengthen a collaborative team environment that promotes trust, engagement, and shared responsibility for success
Supervise depot personnel, assign work, and ensure timely service and adherence to policies and procedures
Conduct performance evaluations, counsel employees, approve leave, and manage disciplinary actions while resolving complaints and grievances
Recommend and implement process improvements to enhance operational effectiveness and customer experience
Provide oversight of front desk depot operations, ensuring accurate attendance tracking, managing callouts, monitoring uniform compliance, and supervising other related responsibilities

Required

Thorough five (5) years professional experience in an area related to daily operations and administration of a public transit bus module
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted
Training certifications for 100c, 200e and 700b will be required for this position. If candidate has not already obtained the referenced certification at hire, the selected candidate will be required to obtain the referenced training and certification within the first six (6) months of employment. The incumbent of the position must maintain this certification
Completion of a pre-employment Medical History Form to assess your ability to safely perform the essential duties of the role

Preferred

Experience in transit operations, compliance, and risk analysis
Strong leadership and staff supervision skills, with proven problem-solving abilities
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, diverse work environment
Formal experience overseeing unionized employees
Occupational Health – i.e., tracking accidents, injuries and incidents. Experience working in public transit, specialized transportation, or a related field
