Responsibilities
Underwrite new and renewal auto and property risks within delegated authority, applying comprehensive knowledge of coverages, guidelines, and underwriting analytics
Prepare and submit underwriting referrals; coordinate facultative reinsurance placements when required
Stay informed on industry developments, market conditions, and regulatory changes that impact underwriting decisions
Assess eligibility, pricing, terms, and conditions based on company guidelines, risk characteristics, and reinsurance requirements
Build and maintain strong agency relationships through clear communication, responsive service, and professional collaboration
Communicate underwriting decisions effectively and negotiate terms when appropriate
Participate in agency visits, industry events, and marketing initiatives to support business development and retention
Partner with Senior Underwriters and leadership to address complex risks and emerging issues
Participate in underwriting quality reviews and contribute to process improvement initiatives
Maintain accurate documentation of underwriting decisions and ensure compliance with underwriting standards and regulatory requirements
Analyze business intelligence and loss data to evaluate trends, identify opportunities, and support profitability and retention goals
Monitor business performance and recommend strategies to enhance the quality and competitiveness of the book
Share knowledge and insights across internal teams and actively engage in self-development
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree required
2–4 years of insurance industry experience required
Strong analytical skills and the ability to evaluate exposures, hazards, and loss trends
Effective communication and relationship-building abilities
Proficiency in underwriting software and Microsoft Office applications
Strong attention to detail; able to work independently and collaboratively
Professional, adaptable, and resilient in a dynamic work environment
Oral and written communication skills in conversations and correspondence advising agents of underwriting decisions and company products
Ability to work in a dynamic team environment
Hybrid schedule: three in-office days (Mondays and Tuesdays required)
Travel for agency and marketing visits is required
Preferred
CPCU designation or progress toward completion preferred
Commercial lines underwriting experience preferred
Experience working with agents or in a marketing capacity is a plus
Familiarity with treaty and facultative reinsurance practices preferred
