Mechanical Engineer – Machine & Tool Design (Manufacturing)

United Abrasives, Inc. is seeking a hands-on Mechanical Engineer – Manufacturing to support machine, tool, and equipment design at their North Windham, Connecticut manufacturing facility. This role involves designing, modifying, and improving production equipment to enhance U.S.-based manufacturing operations for high-quality abrasive products.

Responsibilities

Design and modify production machinery, tooling, and manufacturing equipment
Support fabrication, machining, and assembly of large-scale production equipment
Work closely with fabrication and facilities personnel to ensure designs are practical, safe, and manufacturable
Manage parts procurement and assist with inventory control for engineering projects
Create, maintain, and update mechanical drawings and documentation for machining and assembly
Apply sound machining and manufacturing principles in the design of mechanical components
Support equipment improvements and manufacturing efficiency initiatives

Required

Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME)
Minimum of 3 years of experience in industrial mechanical design and manufacturing environments
Strong understanding of tool design and part machining techniques
Working knowledge of metallurgy and material selection
Strong 3D CAD design skills required; KeyCreator experience is a plus
Proven ability to take a concept from initial design through fabrication and implementation
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
Strong problem-solving skills, including root cause analysis
Effective written and verbal communication skills in English
Ability to read and troubleshoot electric, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems is a plus
Self-directed, reliable, and willing to learn new skills in a manufacturing-focused environment
