Electrical Engineering Intern (SAS) - Summer 2026

WSP is one of the world's leading engineering and professional services firms, seeking a Full Time Electrical Engineering Summer 2026 Intern to work in their Freeport, ME office. The role involves supporting various engineering tasks, learning basic principles of Electrical Engineering, and assisting with power system planning and infrastructure design studies.

Responsibilities

Support a variety of engineering tasks with the goal to develop technical, social, and ethical skills
Learn basic principles of Electrical Engineering
Assist with protective relaying, including short circuit analysis, relay settings, and compliance work using specialized software
Support power system planning studies such as power flow, voltage stability, and automation of simulations
Contribute to infrastructure design studies like substation grounding, insulation coordination, and power quality analysis
Design and configure networking and communications for SCADA and protection systems, and assist with on-site commissioning
Develop logic and control schemes for power system equipment, including programming and field testing
Prepare and program data acquisition systems, develop HMI screens, and assist with data transfer commissioning
Complete training on assigned tasks
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs

Required

Actively enrolled in an accredited Electrical Engineering, or related, Undergraduate program with an anticipated graduation date of August 2026 or later
Must be 18 or older
Demonstrated interest in Electrical Engineering, or related field, and have a strong desire to advance skills related to WSP's work and projects
Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience
Capable of taking direction from leadership, mentors, and managers to executive projects
Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
Authorization to work in the United States at the start of the internship

Preferred

Actively enrolled in an accredited Electrical Engineering or related, Masters or PhD program with an anticipated graduation date of August 2026 or later
Successful completion of junior-level courses in power system analysis and/or power system protection
Prior internship and leadership involvement on campus
