Managing Director, Nature Finance

Acre is seeking a Managing Director for Nature Finance to lead NatureVest's team of impact finance professionals. The role involves developing and executing impact investment and sovereign debt products while overseeing various projects and managing relationships with key stakeholders.

Responsibilities

Manages a team of finance professionals within a geographically distributed and highly matrixed organization
Leads team responsible for developing private equity, corporate finance, and sovereign debt transactions, from initial scoping to negotiation and financial close, including with emerging market partners
Provides guidance, coaching, and mentorship to team members throughout the deal structuring process, including building relationships with key external partners, capital structuring, credit enhancement mechanisms, risk assessment and mitigation, and capital raising
Brings sophisticated business, financial, credit, and economic analysis, and structured finance expertise in both the sovereign and non-sovereign space, to inform deal structuring, due diligence, and negotiation of new impact investing deals
Advises on financial and commercial aspects of NatureVest's post-close portfolio as needed
Provides advice and guidance to other non-transaction finance and market teams within NatureVest
Approaches all work with a spirit of collaboration and respect for colleagues and partners across geographies, cultures, and subject matter expertise
Leads and directs a team of 8-10 finance professionals in structuring deals and performing financial analyses for impact investment products
Applies deep financial expertise to pioneer innovative approaches in impact investing and sovereign debt markets
Builds and strengthens strategic relationships with financial institutions, credit enhancers, NGOs, multilaterals, bilaterals, capital market investors, fund managers, commercial lenders, and national governments
Integrates cross-disciplinary insights to design viable investments that deliver measurable conservation outcomes
Influences decision-making across all levels at TNC, motivates high-performing teams, and fosters collaboration with internal leaders and external partners
Advises NatureVest's non-transaction teams on financial sector engagement strategies
Guides legal collaboration, ensuring effective coordination with internal and external counsel on complex transaction issues
Represents TNC publicly as a spokesperson at industry events and in media on impact investing initiatives
Serves on TNC's internal review and approvals committee, shaping decisions on impact investment transactions
Travels extensively (up to 30% domestic and international), including outside standard business hours

Required

Bachelor's degree in finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field and 9 years related work experience in a private sector environment, such as investment banking, multilateral finance, or government entity, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Debt and structured finance experience, and experience structuring, negotiating, and closing debt and equity transactions, including in emerging markets
Experience with debt swap structures, terms, and mechanics
Experience with impact investing structures
Experience in securing investment capital from private and public sources
Track record of ensuring programmatic commitments, policies and procedures, financial standards, and legal requirements are met and managed for compliance
Ability to direct the design and implementation of complex and diverse projects, setting deadlines and ensuring program accountability
Ability to make strategic decisions based on analysis, experience, and judgment
Experience negotiating complex legal agreements from a business and financial perspective
Experience working at a senior level
Written and verbal fluency in English

Preferred

15 to 20+ years of experience in financial services and transactions
Experience managing a team of finance professionals to close financial transactions
Multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience
Strong team player who can build relationships and work collaboratively across the organization in an unstructured environment and with Conservancy partners; prior experience working with NGOs a plus
Experience both in and outside the U.S. strongly preferred. Demonstrated commitment to developing and practicing global literacy
Acts independently and exercises judgment to identify and solve complex problems
Outstanding analytical and project management capabilities
Superior written and oral communications
Skills in a language in addition to English a strong plus (Spanish and/or French)
