Montgomery County Public Schools is seeking a Project Engineer II to perform a variety of complex and specialized technical field service inspection duties. Under general supervision performs a variety of complex and specialized technical field service inspection duties
The work of the class involves monitoring and maintaining project controls to ensure compliance with Federal, State and local codes and standards and contractual provisions; reviews plans and specifications and performs related work as required
Qualification
Required
Ability to physically inspect construction sites and all areas of school facilities
Ability to operate testing equipment
Use of private vehicle to travel to schools or construction sites on frequent and unscheduled basis (reimbursement provided)
Ability to work variable hours in response to emergencies
Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of building infrastructure, which includes mechanical and electrical engineering as well as plumbing
Considerable knowledge of safety standards and practices as related to construction
Ability to review construction plans (mechanical, electrical, and plumbing), specifications, and to detect errors in design or deviations from directives or codes
Ability to appraise the quality of rate of construction progress
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with architects, contractors, and utility company personnel
Ability to prepare written recommendations and reports
Skill in the use of standard drafting instruments
Good communications and human relations skills
Considerable experience in the design, construction, maintenance, operation, and inspection of projects
Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree, which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform effectively in the position, may be considered
Preferred
Bachelors degree preferred
College course work or technical school training in mechanical or electrical engineering
Possession of a valid Maryland noncommercial Class C driver's license or equivalent desirable
Plumber's license desirable
