Responsibilities
Operates various types of motorized equipment in performing cemetery construction and maintenance work
Excavates graves to precise dimensions with perpendicular sides and square bottom
Lays out graves and stone locations from plat book coordinates; sets grave markers
Removes snow from grave sites, roads, walks, and paths
Operates jack hammer and taper-compactor; excavates trenches for pipe installation or repairs
Operates equipment in areas where movement is extremely restricted; spreads and hauls materials; discs and aerifies
Operates chainsaw for tree maintenance or removal
Lubricates equipment; makes minor repairs and adjustments
Performs safety inspections on equipment and maintain records
Supervises crew on grave site; may serve as lead worker
Keeps mileage and service records
Performs tasks relating to digging holes for foundations for headstones/footstones and other memorial markers
Performs tasks for setting, resetting and raising monuments
Performs related work as assigned
Qualification
Required
Completion of the tenth grade
Two years of experience in the operation of motorized construction and maintenance equipment
Possession of a valid Class A commercial driver's license with no airbrakes restriction issued by the State of Iowa
Candidates for positions in this class must pass a post-employment offer physical examination and drug screen
Preferred
Completion of a one-year recognized apprenticeship or vocational training program in equipment operation may be substituted for one year of experience
