Software Engineer (Edge Computing)
Instrumental Inc. is a technology company that helps electronics brands improve manufacturing processes. They are seeking a Software Engineer to join their Edge Computing team, responsible for enhancing the functionality and performance of their in-factory stations and collaborating with various teams to ensure customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities
Take ownership of our Edge Computing platform
Extend its functionality with new features
Continuously improve its performance, scalability, and reliability
Collaborate with stakeholders to improve the deployment, SaaS integration, and ongoing operational efficiencies
Exercise curiosity and initiative. Always looking for better ways to build and to learn
Build core components and features for our Edge Computing platform
Contribute to the software and systems that power Instrumental’s in-factory stations
Develop features and improvements across our embedded Linux environment, device services, and application code
Write reliable, maintainable code that keeps stations running smoothly in real factory environments
Contribute to reliability and engineering quality
Participate in code reviews and design discussions to ensure we continually raise the bar on quality
Contribute to team processes, documentation, and standards that support reliability and long-term maintainability
Bring curiosity and initiative — whether improving a tool, suggesting a simplification, or learning a new part of the system
Collaborate with teammates across Engineering, Product, and Ops
Partner with engineers and cross-functional teams to understand requirements and scope
Deliver incremental milestones to gather feedback and iterate rapidly with our Product team
Validate assumptions and ensure solutions address real customer needs
Communicate progress and surface risks early to keep partners aligned
Qualification
Required
2+ years of experience delivering production code and/or solid educational background
Proficiency in Javascript or Typescript
Experience working with Node.js
Experience with embedded systems or interest in learning the domain
Great communication skills
Extreme open mindset. New technologies, new frameworks, AI tools, bring them on!
A genuine interest in understanding customer problems — you're serious about what problems customers are facing, use cases, how to build solutions, how to engage with stakeholders to seek feedback and how to act upon it
Passion of the startup do-er culture, own it, figure things out, win as a team, do whatever it takes
Preferred
