Research Assistant (Contractual II)

The University of Maryland School of Medicine is currently recruiting for a Contractual Research Assistant to perform biomedical research in the laboratory of Dr. Michy Kelly. The Research Assistant will conduct experiments involving mouse behavior, molecular, and biochemical analyses, while also contributing to laboratory publications and maintaining the mouse colony.

Responsibilities

Perform routine laboratory maintenance and research activities such as: performing cell culture experiments that examine the effect of recombinant DNA and/or pharmacological tools; executing molecular/biochemical analyses using techniques such as immunofluorescence, in situ hybridization, microscopy, etc.; tissue processing (e.g., cryosectioning, homogenizing, etc.), performing protein purification, conducting mouse colony maintenance and behavioral studies
Compile and analyze research data using various relevant computer software applications and contribute to laboratory publications
Create scientific posters, abstracts, and manuscripts
Perform administrative duties such as: training and guiding students and/or other laboratory technicians; ordering supplies, maintaining lab stockpiles (e.g., buffers), keeping the laboratory environment orderly and clean
Perform other duties as assigned

Required

Bachelor's degree in neuroscience, biology, biochemistry, pharmacology, biomedical sciences, or a related field or discipline

Occasional weekend or holiday work will be required

Preferred

One (1) year of laboratory research experience
Experience with mouse behavior, colony maintenance, ex vivo molecular/biochemical techniques and drafting scientific publications
