Montgomery County Public Schools is seeking a Project Engineer I to perform facility inspections and assessments, and facilitate design, permitting, construction, and post-construction processes. The role involves inspecting and approving contract construction projects for compliance, coordinating inspections, and managing construction projects as needed.

Responsibilities

Perform facility inspections and assessments

Facilitates design, permitting, construction and post-construction processes

Inspecting and approving elements of contract construction projects, for compliance with specifications and plans

Coordinating required inspections with state and local agencies

Reviewing and evaluating construction submittals

Implementing project closeout and warranty procedures

Serving as a liaison between general contractors, architects, engineers, and school administrators

Assessing and reporting on condition of existing facilities

Taking over day-to-day management of construction projects

May be assigned contract administration responsibilities in combination with other work of this class

Required

Bachelors degree required

Course work in basic engineering

Extensive experience of a responsible nature in the supervision of general construction work as a contractor or owner's representative

Extensive knowledge of the materials and methods used in the construction of buildings and related structures

Knowledge of applicable codes and regulations

Knowledge of methods for assessing construction compliance requirements

Knowledge of mechanical drawing, general construction surveying, and cost estimating

Ability to assess the damage to structures

Ability to read, interpret and apply construction plans, specifications, applicable building codes and regulations

Ability to recognize deviations from such requirements

Ability to appraise the quality and rate of construction progress of project

Ability to be firm and tactful in dealings with contractors, architects, craft workers, and the general public

Ability to maintain accurate construction records and to prepare complete and concise reports

Excellent communication and human relations skills

Thorough knowledge of various computer applications, including Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, & Project

Knowledge of and the ability to meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS)
