Principal Avionics Engineer

Lumira Search is seeking a Lead / Principal Avionics Engineer to provide technical authority across avionics systems for a rapidly growing satellite manufacturing company. This role involves guiding architecture decisions and leading avionics execution from concept through flight and on-orbit operations.

Responsibilities

Serve as the technical authority for spacecraft avionics, owning system architecture, design standards, and technical decision-making
Define and evolve the end-to-end avionics architecture, including OBCs, power systems, data handling, communications interfaces, and redundancy concepts
Lead avionics development across the full lifecycle: requirements flow-down, architecture definition, design, integration, qualification, and flight support
Drive system-level trade studies balancing performance, reliability, cost, and manufacturability
Oversee and review schematics, layouts, harness designs, and system interfaces, ensuring compliance with space-qualified reliability standards
Partner closely with GNC, software, mechanical, systems, and AIT leadership to deliver an integrated spacecraft platform
Lead supplier strategy, including vendor selection, component qualification, parts lifecycle management, and risk mitigation
Support spacecraft-level environmental testing, launch campaigns, commissioning, and on-orbit anomaly resolution
Mentor and technically guide avionics engineers, establishing best practices, design reviews, and engineering standards

Required

10+ years of experience in avionics, spacecraft electronics, or high-reliability embedded systems
Proven ownership of spacecraft avionics architectures on flown or qualified missions
Deep experience with embedded systems, power electronics, spacecraft data buses, and fault-tolerant design
Strong background supporting qualification, environmental testing, and flight programs
Ability to operate as a technical leader and cross-functional decision-maker
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field

Preferred

Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
