Business Process Improvement Consultant
BGS Consulting is seeking a senior Business Process Improvement Consultant to support a public, not-for-profit organization undergoing an organizational and operational assessment. This consultant will lead the evaluation and redesign of business processes, develop a future-state operating model, and establish documented SOPs with embedded controls to support audit readiness and effective governance.
Responsibilities
Conduct an end-to-end assessment of current-state organizational structure, roles, and workflows
Identify gaps, inefficiencies, and control weaknesses across business processes
Design a future-state operating model aligned to governance, compliance, and operational objectives
Lead detailed process mapping across key functional areas
Redesign processes to improve efficiency, clarity, and accountability
Define decision rights, handoffs, and escalation paths
Develop and document standard operating procedures (SOPs) from the ground up where needed
Embed internal controls, approvals, and review points into SOPs
Ensure processes are repeatable, auditable, and resilient to staffing changes
Support audit readiness by improving documentation, traceability, and control design
Provide advisory support related to internal controls, governance structures, and compliance requirements
Align processes to federal and state grant compliance standards (e.g., OMB Uniform Guidance / 2 CFR 200)
Assist leadership in preparing for audits, reviews, or inspector-general inquiries
Partner with cross-functional leaders to validate process changes and operating model decisions
Facilitate working sessions and communicate recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
Qualification
Required
10+ years of experience in business process improvement, organizational design, or management consulting
Experience supporting public sector, government, or not-for-profit organizations
Demonstrated ability to lead operating model design and process transformation initiatives
Strong background in internal controls, audit readiness, and compliance-driven environments
Experience with grant compliance, grant audits, or federally funded programs
Proven ability to work independently as a senior consultant on short-term engagements
Preferred
Big 4 public sector experience (Deloitte, EY, KPMG, PwC)
Experience with boutique government consulting firms (e.g., Guidehouse, ICF, PCG, etc.)
Former government transformation or internal improvement roles
Lean Six Sigma (Black Belt) or BPM-related certifications
Exposure to audit, inspector-general, or regulatory review environments
