Director, Alternative Funds Controller - Delaware

Responsibilities

Collaborate with Alternative Operations and Private Markets leadership to improve the framework guiding private funds, incorporating guidelines and innovative technology
Partner with client-facing teams to handle client due diligence meetings and requests
Work closely with Portfolio Management, Operations, and Client Servicing/Reporting teams to develop an outstanding operating model for the Alternatives platform
Serve as the senior escalation contact for our business partners
Oversee process re-engineering to identify risk areas, implement scalable solutions, and drive efficiencies
Develop mechanisms to monitor business as usual (BAU) processes and produce metrics to understand risk in terms of open breaks, exposure, P&L deviation, etc
Provide thought leadership and guide the team towards increased independence in BAU and fund ownership
Engage team members in career development conversations to promote growth and skill enhancement
Collaborate with external fund administrators to enhance controls, reduce operational overheads, and improve accuracy
Participate in health checks to evaluate operational frameworks for optimal service from administrators
Resolve operational issues in collaboration with external service providers, internal team members, and other BlackRock groups
Actively participate as a voting member on private valuation committees
Ensure process documentation and controls are regularly updated and reviewed
Lead cash management and credit facility meetings with senior collaborators within the Alternatives division
Engage in new product onboarding with Product Oversight teams, review and comment on draft legal documents, and understand carried interest waterfall mechanics

Required

15+ years of experience in consulting, managing investment portfolios, or handling operational functions. This includes fund accounting or related areas dedicated to private funds and alternative asset investments
Proven ability to lead a distributed team of 30+ people with strong people management skills
Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting is required
Understanding of systems and data architecture is essential
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
Highly organized and adaptable to variable deadlines
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
Demonstrated success in high-performance or high-demand environments
Initiative and a willingness to contribute beyond the scope of the role to achieve team and firm objectives

Preferred

CPA preferred
Former big-4 audit and lead controller experience in the alternative asset industry is a plus
Familiarity with eFront, Geneva, and/or Investran is preferred
